McGard Logo Update

Updating the McGard logo was one of the first projects I worked on at McGard. It was very dated with embossing and shadow effects. I simplified it and made it more modern. The pattern gradient could (and was for a few moments) be more chrome-like, but we ended up going this direction with the thought that it can be equally visible on both light and dark backgrounds.

Another update. The old ad was much too busy and disorganized. I was told we needed to keep all the same products in the ad, so I cut and rewrote the copy and added a focal image to give it more of a wow factor and remove the noise.

Another rework. Same criteria, the sales team wanted to keep all the products. So instead of giving each product equal weight, I created some hierarchy and grouped a few sections together. I made our bread and butter products the spotlight, and relegated the others to a second tier.

New Ad Direction
A brand new ad direction. We wanted to try and show our lug nuts in a premium way. We bought a few landscaping bricks from Home Depot and experimented with the camera and Photoshop until we ended up here. I wrote most of the copy on the left (some group revisions along the way) and the headline. I’m very pleased with the way it turned out.

McGard Test Shots

This little edit was an attempt to sell the idea of creating a social media ad. I wanted to see what we could accomplish in-house. I bought traditional lights, an RGB light, and lit up the scene with a purple color (McGard’s company color). I also bought a rotating display stand and a reflective black base. This was all shot with my iPhone and I added some royalty free music and sound effects. I created the little McGard logo animation at the very end in After Effects.

McGard Social Media Ideas

Both of these videos were concepts I created with the intention of being used as YouTube ads. The first is a 15 second ad. The portion with the couple on the side of the road is royalty free stock footage from Shutterstock. The video on the bottom is an idea for 6 second bumper ad that uses no actual video footage, just still elements we already had. I recorded the voice over with one of our sales managers as the voice actor.
